| Mayer and a team of physicians in North America, Europe, Asia, and Australia treated 303 bleeding-stroke patients with an intravenous drug called recombinant activated factor VII (rFVIIa), which certain hemophilia patients receive under the brand name NovoSeven. Another patient, a 28-year-old man, had been diagnosed with a factor VII deficiency (activity: 20%) during childhood, but he did not undergo detailed analysis or experience any post-tonsillectomy bleeding. People with high levels of fibrinogen and activated factor VII have a higher risk of heart attacks. |
