Because Transmeta does not have a chip plant, Crusoe is being fabbed by IBM Microelectronics. In analyzing the Sony Emotion Engine Microprocessor & Graphics Synthesizer, fabbed in the Sony/Toshiba CMOS4 process, we found transistor gates less than 50 nm seen in our samples, and six levels of copper plus aluminum were used. DataDirect developed its own ASICs (to be fabbed by LSI) for the device, which will include an 8-way, zero latency switch and dual controllers with 800MB/sec throughput capacity. |
