Venkataraman, 98, was admitted to the hospital on January 12 with complaints of Urosepsis (a toxic condition caused by the extravasations of urine into bodily tissues.
As long as nurses initiate the infusions properly and monitor them closely, few, if any, extravasations will occur.
Bilateral fistulography demonstrated complete branchial tracts and extravasations of contrast material in each tonsillar fossa.
