ex·ter·nal pin fix·a·tion

in oral surgery, stabilization of fractures of the mandible, maxilla, or zygoma by pins or screws drilled into the bony part through the overlying skin and connected by a metal bar.

external pin fixation

a method of holding together the fragments of a fractured bone by means of pins that are attached to the bone and that protrude from the skin. See also skeletal fixation.
