exon /ex·on/ (ek´son) the coding region in a gene.

ex·onic adj.

exon
[ek′son]
Etymology: Gk, exo + genein, to produce
the part of a DNA molecule that contains the code for the final messenger RNA. Compare intron.

Scientists found the DHODH gene by using a pioneering new strategy called "exome sequencing" that analyses a person's exons - segments of a gene that contains instructions for making a protein.
In addition, finding first exons still remains a challenge, except where the true full-length mRNA sequences are available.
Topics covered include multiclass gene selection on microarray data using 11-norm least square regression, genomic comparison of bacterial species based on metabolic characteristics, accurate prediction of alternatively spliced cassette exons using evolutionary conservation information and the Logitlinear model, and an adaptive suffix tree-based algorithm for repeat recognition in a DNA sequence.
