eyebright

Herbal medicine
An annual that contains glycosides, saponins, tannins and volatile oils. It is anti-inflammatory and astringent, and has a long tradition among herbalists as an eye tonic; it is administered as an infusion or applied topically for itchiness, and has been used for colds, hay fever and sore throat.
