[eth′əver′ēn] a smooth muscle relaxant. indications It is prescribed to relieve spasm of the GI or genitourinary tract, arterial vasospasm, cerebral insufficiency, and peripheral and cerebrovascular insufficiency. contraindications Liver disease, atrioventricular dissociation, or known hypersensitivity to this drug prohibits its use. It is prescribed with caution to patients who have glaucoma. adverse effects Among the more serious adverse effects are hypotension, abdominal distress, cardiac arrhythmia, and headache.
