n a means of maintaining balance. Consists of the visual system, or what the person perceives as reference points; the vestibular system, or internal gyroscope that informs the body of its position as it rotates or accelerates in space; and the proprioceptive system, which provides the person with feedback based upon the position of every joint and contracted muscle in the body.
