epithelioid cell
n.
A nonepithelial cell, especially one derived from a macrophage, having characteristics resembling those of an epithelial cell, often found in granulomas associated with tuberculosis.

Histopathology of the parotid mass revealed that it was made up of a group of lymph nodes whose architecture was preserved; the mass contained a proliferation of histiocytes, hyperplastic follicles, enlarged germinal centers, and epithelioid cells with abundant, pale eosinophilic cytoplasm (figure 2).
A lymph node biopsy showed granulomatous lymphadenitis with stellate abscesses surrounded by palisading epithelioid cells.
Histology of the deep biopsy specimen identified features of granulomatous inflammation and palisading epithelioid cells, Langhans' giant cells, lymphocytes, and a few neutrophils with small foci of caseous necrosis (figure 1).
