epiglottic cartilage
n.
A thin lamina of elastic cartilage forming the central portion of the epiglottis.

epiglottic
pertaining to or emanating from the epiglottis.

epiglottic cartilage
attached to the thyroid cartilage of the larynx by the thyroepiglottic ligament; it is the structural basis of the epiglottis.

epiglottic entrapment
the epiglottis is trapped by the arytenoepiglottic fold and fails to function normally. Affected horses show exercise intolerance, noisy breathing, coughing and a characteristic appearance of the laryngeal opening viewed through a fiberscope.
epiglottic hypoplasia
a smaller than normal epiglottis is often associated with dorsal displacement of the soft palate in horses, resulting in respiratory embarrassment during exercise.
