a superficial fungus infection of the skin.

epidermophytosis [ep″ĭ-der″mo-fi-to´sis]
1. a fungal skin infection due to Epidermophyton.
epidermophytosis cru´ris tinea cruris.

epidermophytosis
a fungal skin infection, especially one due to Epidermophyton floccosum. The common form is athlete's foot in humans, but the infection has been identified in the dog, mule and goat. Called also dermatophytosis.
