an acute infectious disease usually occurring in widespread outbreaks, characterized by paroxysms of pain, usually in the chest, and associated with strains of Coxsackievirus type B.

Bone formation occurring at an abnormal anatomical site, usually in soft tissue, e.g. ossification of the intramuscular fascia after an injury.

parenchymatous myositis

Myositis of the substance of a muscle.

myositis purulenta

Suppurative myositis with abscesses; caused by bacterial infection.

traumatic myositis

Myositis due to physical injury. The condition may be simple, with accompanying pain and swelling, or may be suppurative.

Myositis due to infestation with trichinae.
