epicardia [-kär′dē·ə] Etymology: Gk, epi, above, kardia, heart the part of the esophagus that lies between the cardiac orifice of the stomach and the esophageal opening of the diaphragm. epicardia the lower portion of the esophagus, extending from the esophageal hiatus to the cardia, the upper orifice of the stomach.
