EFNA4

A gene on chromosome 1q21-q22 that encodes ephrin-A4, a cell surface GPI-bound ligand for the Eph family of tyrosine kinase receptors, which are crucial for migration, repulsion and adhesion during neuronal, vascular and epithelial development. EFNA4 may play a role in the interaction between activated B cells and dendritic cells in tonsils and mucosa-associated lymphoid tissue (MALT).

A splice variant of human ephrin-A4 encodes a soluble molecule that is secreted by activated human B lymphocytes.
Furthermore, investigation of the pooled RNA of eight glioblastoma biopsies revealed six candidates, which were more than fivefold differentially expressed compared with healthy brain tissue: EphA2, ephrin-A4, and EphB4 were up-regulated, whereas EphA1, EphA8, and ephrin-A5 were down-regulated (Fig.
