Eohippus

Eohippus
the oldest known ancestor of the horse. A short, 25-50 cm high, rodent-like animal with four toes on each forefoot and three on each hind. Each toe had a hoof. The Eohippus survived by its speed. See also mesohippus.

Believe it or not, Big Bird remembers right back to the time of Eohippus, the Dawn Horse some 50 million years ago.
And the evolution of the horse, from tiny Eohippus to the modern horse, is often cited as the classic example of Cope's Rule.
