a nursing intervention from the Nursing Interventions Classification (NIC) defined as preventing and detecting disease and injury in populations at risk from environmental hazards. See also Nursing Interventions Classification.

abuse protection in the nursing interventions classification, a nursing intervention defined as the identification of high-risk, dependent relationships and actions to prevent further infliction of physical or emotional harm. See also physical abuse and sexual abuse.
abuse protection: child in the nursing interventions classification, a nursing intervention defined as the identification of high-risk, dependent child relationships and actions to prevent possible or further infliction of physical, sexual, or emotional harm or neglect of basic necessities of life. See also child abuse.
abuse protection: domestic partner in the nursing interventions classification, a nursing intervention defined as identification of high-risk, dependent relationships and actions to prevent possible or further infliction or physical, sexual, or emotional harm or exploitation of a domestic partner.
abuse protection: elder in the nursing interventions classification, a nursing intervention defined as the identification of high-risk, dependent elder relationships and actions to prevent possible or further infliction of physical, sexual, or emotional harm; neglect of basic necessities; or exploitation. abuse protection: religious in the nursing interventions classification, a nursing intervention defined as identification of high-risk, controlling religious relationships and actions to prevent infliction of physical, sexual, or emotional harm and/or exploitation.
environmental risk protection in the nursing interventions classification, a nursing intervention defined as preventing and detecting disease and injury in populations at risk from environmental hazards.
ineffective protection a nursing diagnosis accepted by the North American Nursing Diagnosis Association, defined as a decrease in the ability of an individual to guard the self from internal or external threats such as illness or injury.
infection protection in the nursing interventions classification, a nursing intervention defined as prevention and early detection of infection in a patient at risk. See also isolation precautions.
patient rights protection in the nursing interventions classification, a nursing intervention defined as protection of patient's rights, the health care rights of the patient, especially one who is a minor, incapacitated, or incompetent and unable to make decisions.
