clitoris /clit·o·ris/ (klit´ah-ris) the small, elongated, erectile body in the female, situated at the anterior angle of the rima pudendi and homologous with the penis in the male.
clitoris [klit′əris] Etymology: Gk, kleitoris the vaginal erectile structure of the female homologous to the corpora cavernosa of the penis. It consists of two corpora cavernosa within a dense layer of fibrous membrane, joined along their inner surfaces by an incomplete fibrous septum. It is situated beneath the anterior labia commissure, partially hidden between the anterior extremities of the labia minora and partly covered by a prepuce. clitoral, adj. clitoris the small, elongated, erectile body in the female; it occupies the clitoral fossa in the ventral commissure of the vulva where it is attached to the ischial arch by two crura.
