ECE2

A gene on chromosome 3q27.1 that encodes endothelin-converting enzyme 2, a type-II metalloprotease involved in proteolytic processing of endothelin precursors (big endothelin 1) to the biologically active peptide (endothelin 1). ECE-2 also processes neuroendocrine peptides, including neurotensin, angiotensin I, substance P, proenkephalin-derived peptides and prodynorphin-derived peptides, and may also have methyltransferase activity.
