encounter

Etymology: Gk, en + L, contra, against
(in psychotherapy) the interaction between a patient and a psychotherapist, such as occurs in existential therapy, or among several members of a small group, such as encounter or sensitivity training groups. In an encounter emotional change and personal growth are affected by participants' expression of strong feelings.
