Tests for Differential Diagnoses African horse sickness virus (AHSV), equine encephalosis virus (EEV), and equine herpesviruses (EHV) 1 and 4 were identified by using viral culture and antigen detection assays and/or complement fixation tests (31) on serum samples and using RT-PCR to detect AHSV and EHV (32).
The IAH's research focuses on diseases in cattle, sheep, horses and pigs including FMD, lumpy skin disease, rinderpest, African swine fever, swine vesicular disease, equine encephalosis and sheep and goat pox.
Pre-export quarantine was suspended before laboratory testing revealed the cause was more likely to be equine encephalosis virus (EEV) than AHS.
