Encephalitozoon /En·ce·phal·i·to·zo·on/ (en″sĕ-fal″ĭ-to-zo´on) a genus of parasitic protozoa, causing infection mainly in immunocompromised patients; E. cuni´culi affects predominantly the brain and kidney, E. hel´lem affects the eye, and E. intestina´lis affects the intestines.
Encephalitozoon a genus of protozoa in the class Microsporea. Encephalitozoon cuniculi
occurs in rodents, dogs, primates and humans. Has a similar physical appearance and pathogenetic effect to toxoplasmosis. Causes encephalitozoonosis. Encephalitozoon Infectious disease A genus of microsporidia that most commonly infects the small intestine of immunocompromised Pts, in particular those with AIDS; in most Pts, the infection is confined to the small intestine and accompanied
