ectopic /ec·top·ic/ (ek-top´ik)
1. pertaining to ectopia.
2. located away from normal position.
3. arising from an abnormal site or tissue.

ec·top·ic (k-tpk)
adj.
1. Out of place, as of an organ not in its proper position, or of a pregnancy occurring elsewhere than in the cavity of the uterus.
2. Of or relating to a heartbeat that has its origin elsewhere than in the sinoatrial node.

Ectopic
Located away from normal position; ectopic pregnancy results in the attachment and growth of the fertilized egg outside of the uterus, a life-threatening condition.

ectopic ACTH syndrome
production of ACTH by nonpituitary tumors occurs in humans and is a cause of adrenal hyperplasia and hyperadrenocorticism. It has not been reported in animals.
ectopic endocrinopathy
production of hormones by nonendocrinal, usually neoplastic, tissues. The most common example in animals is pseudohyperparathyroidism in dogs caused by a variety of tumors, particularly apocrine adenocarcinomas of the anal sacs and lymphosarcoma.
ectopic heart
see ectopia cordis.
ectopic kidney
usually an unascended kidney.
ectopic lens
see ectopia lentis.
ectopic mineralization
deposition of calcium salts of phosphate, silicate, etc. in unusual situations, e.g. calcifying myopathy in horses. See also mineralization.
ectopic ossification
see ectopic mineralization (above).
ectopic teeth
see dental cyst.

It is difficult to falsify the official statistics because on the death certificate (signed by a doctor), the doctor is asked (if the deceased was female), whether the death occurred during pregnancy, including abortion and ectopic pregnancy.
