ectomorph [ek′təmôrf′] Etymology: Gk, ektos + morphe, form a person whose physique is characterized by slenderness, fragility, and a predominance of structures derived from the ectoderm. Compare endomorph, mesomorph. See also asthenic habitus. ectomorph, n one of the three somatotypes described by W.H. Sheldon, characterized by a linear, thin, delicate body with small bone and muscle structure and mass. See also somatotype. ectomorph (ek´tōmôrf), n a constitutional body type (Sheldon's classification) characterized by long, fragile bones and a highly developed nervous system.
