Etymology: Gk, ekleipsis, abandoning, skotos, darkness, oma, tumor
a small central area of depressed or lost vision caused by looking directly at the sun without adequate protection. Also called solar maculopathy, solar retinopathy.

eclipse scotoma

An area of blindness in the visual field caused by looking directly at a solar eclipse.
