an anticholinesterase used for ophthalmic purposes.
indications It is prescribed for the treatment of chronic open-angle glaucoma and accommodative esotropia.
contraindications Uveal inflammation, most types of angle-closure glaucoma, or known hypersensitivity to this drug prohibits its use.
adverse effects Among the more serious adverse effects are retinal detachment, nonreversible cataract, lens opacity, activation of iritis or uveitis, and iris cysts.
