EARTHING UP Keep the soil moist but not soggy and when new shoots come through, let them grow a few inches before covering with more compost.
The soil should be kept moist but not waterlogged and you will need to blanch trench varieties in August when they are around 30cm high, earthing up the stems at intervals so that only the green tips are showing, in order to lengthen and improve the stems.
A Earthing up protects new foliage in case of frosts and prevents potatoes near the surface turning green.
