double quartan fever, a form of malaria in which paroxysms of fever occur in a repeating pattern of 2 consecutive days followed by 1 day of remission. The pattern is usually the result of concurrent infections by two species of the genus Plasmodium, one causing paroxysms every 72 hours and the other every 48 hours. Compare biduotertian fever.
