Karyometry was employed to evaluate nuclear shape and volume as well as their relationships, by averaging the largest and smallest diameters of the epithelial cell nuclei of the proximal and distal convoluted tubules and the renal duct collectors.
Distal convoluted tubules showed increased nuclear diameters, implying an increased perimeter, area and volume of these nuclei in fetuses from both groups of treated rats.
At the distal convoluted tubules, cell nuclei also were found in lesser numbers.
For the morphometric study, karyometry was used to evaluate the nuclear parameters of form and volume, as well as their relations by means of the major and minor diameters of epithelial-cell nuclei of the renal proximal and distal convoluted tubules and collecting ducts.
The karyometric analysis showed that values for mean nuclear diameter in cells of proximal and distal convoluted tubules as well as the collecting duct in rats treated with sodium cyclamate were significantly greater than those of their controls.
Mean values of karyometric parameters of cell nuclei (n=50) of distal convoluted tubules of control rats fetuses and treated with sodium cyclamate.
5 g/kg body weight of APAP and described severe tubular necrosis along with tubular dilatation in proximal convoluted tubules vacuolar degeneration epithelial desquamation and intraluminal cast formation mainly in the distal convoluted tubules together with apoptotic bodies.
Glomeruli, distal convoluted tubules, and collecting tubules were relatively spared in the vultures that had early lesions.
This was achieved by performing an experimental study on rats to determine, utilizing karyometry, morphometric alterations induced in the proximal and distal convoluted tubules, the collector tubules and the glomeruli of kidneys of fetuses by treating pregnant dams with a single dose of cadmium chloride.
Table I: Mean greatest and smallest diameters, mean tubule diameter, greatest/smallest diameter ratio, volume, area, perimeter, volume/ area ratio, eccentricity, shape coefficient and contour index of the nuclei of collector tubules and proximal and distal convoluted tubules of the fetal kidneys of the dams from the control and treated groups.
