amitosis

nuclear division in a cell that occurs without the formation of a SPINDLE or the appearance of chromosomes, and from which daughter nuclei with identical chromosome sets are probably not produced. Amitosis occurs for example in the protozoan Paramecium when the MACRONUCLEUS divides.
