an aminoglycoside antibiotic produced by the hydrogenation of streptomycin; ototoxic with damage to sensory end organs.

Summaries follow of the Committee's evaluations of toxicological and residue data on a variety of veterinary drugs: three anthelmintic agents (doramectin, ivermectin and tiabendazole), seven antimicrobial agents (cefuroxime, dihydrostreptomycin and streptomycin, lincomycin, neomycin, oxytetracycline and thiamphenicol), four insecticides (cyhalothrin, cypermethrin and a-cypermethrin, and phoxim) and one production aid (melengestrol acetate).
Unlike its predecessor, dihydrostreptomycin is much more cochleotoxic than it is vestibulotoxic; in fact, it is almost exactly as cochleotoxic as streptomycin is vestibulotoxic.
