Invasive spirochete (Treponema phagedenis-like spirochetes) in lesion. Responds well to antibiotic treatment but in dairy cattle, milk withholding requirements make this uneconomic and treatment and control is usually with antibacterials in footbaths. Called also Mortellaro's disease.
