enumeration and classification of the leukocytes in a Wright-stained blood film. The different categories of white blood cells are counted and reported as percentages of the total examined. Differential white blood cell count provides specific information related to infections and hematologic diseases. Also called differential leukocyte count. Compare complete blood count.
