dermatofibrosarcoma /der·ma·to·fi·bro·sar·co·ma/ (der″mah-to-fi″bro-sahr-ko´mah) a fibrosarcoma of the skin.
dermatofibrosarcoma protu´berans  a locally aggressive, bulky, protuberant, nodular, fibrotic neoplasm occurring in the dermis, usually on the trunk, often extending into the subcutaneous fat.

Etymology: Gk, derma, skin; L, fibra, fiber; Gk, sarx, flesh, oma, tumor
a specific type of fibrous tumor of the skin beginning as an indurated nodule that grows slowly and is often ignored until it grows large. It does not metastasize.

a fibrosarcoma of the skin, arising from the dermis and invading deeper subcutaneous tissue such as fat, fascia, and muscle.

The cells may be disposed in varying manners, such as in a lamellar arrangement, perivascular whorling formation (Figure 2, A and B), or even short bundles with a vague storiform pattern reminiscent of that seen in dermatofibrosarcoma protuberans (Figure 2, C).
