A benign skin nodule consisting mostly of fibrous tissue. Also called sclerosing hemangioma.

Etymology: Gk, derma + L, fibra, fiber, oma, tumor
a cutaneous nodule that is painless, round, firm, gray or red, elevated, and commonly found on the extremities. No treatment is required. Also called fibrous histiocytoma.

dermatofibroma [der″mah-to-fi-bro´mah]
a fibrous tumorlike nodule of the skin, usually on the extremities and especially the legs. Its etiology is not known, but it is most likely a neoplastic disorder. Although it is benign, itching and pain can be a source of severe discomfort.
