An injection of a substance in a form that tends to keep it at the site of injection so that absorption occurs over a prolonged period.

depot injection,
an intramuscular injection of a drug in an oil suspension that results in a gradual release of the medication over several days.

This research involved a 'worst case' scenario involving the slow release preparation called Laurabolin, a depot injection product which has been described in some manufacturers' data sheets as possessing high anabolic activity for up to six weeks after injection.
