department head
Administration The director of a service–ie a specialty field–eg, surgery, who is often appointed by the chief of the medical staff, whose function is to foster, facilitate, and participate in institutional activities, coordinate departmental activities, maintain the quality of medical care rendered by the department, arbitrate intradepartmental disputes, interact with administration, nursing, and other departments, and serve as a liaison with the community.
