A deferred diagnosis may involve 1 or more specimens of a given case. A deferred diagnosis with diagnostic reclassification from generic on the FS to specific in the final diagnosis occurred in 685 cases (95% of deferrals), and the generic diagnosis was generally sufficient for clinical managerial purposes. Finally, in cases in which there is an equivocal or deferred diagnosis, this information needs to be clearly communicated to the surgeon so that appropriate intraoperative measures can be taken (eg, additional tissue). |
