It is thoughtless of people to laugh at situations such as mental health issues, however i think that people do it because they are anxous, uneducated and at times it has to do with a mob mentality... People in groups often do and say things out of charactor because it is what they feel they are expected to do.. With age, experience and maturity this fades for most. Try not to take it too personally....
You dont have to find someone with a mental illness to partner with you just have to look for someone open and patient and kind..
