dapple a spotted, mottled or irregularly pigmented coat color pattern, usually with darker colors on a lighter background, seen in some Dachshunds. A similar pigmentation pattern in longhaired dog breeds such as collies is usually called merle. Also occurs commonly in horses of any color, but is most striking in grays. May be noticeable only when the coat is short. How to thank TFD for its existence? By day, the bamboo graphic becomes an eye-catching and simple form of sun-shading; by night, green light dapples through the interior to create the seductive and slightly surreal optical illusion of a luminous bamboo plantation sprouting in the heart of one of the world's densest cities. The surreal emergence of a patch of earth against dark foliage, or dapples of light on the brightly lit surface of a rock, seems to deprive the scene of materiality or to indicate a superimposition of different moments. Here, light magically filters and dapples through vertical screens of bamboo and lightweight hovering roofs. |
