dance reflex Etymology: ME, dauncen + L, reflectere, to bend back a normal response in the neonate to simulate walking by a reciprocal flexion and extension of the legs when held in an erect position and inclined forward, with the soles touching a hard surface. The reflex disappears by about 3 to 6 weeks of age and is replaced by controlled, deliberate movement. Also called step reflex, stepping reflex. How to thank TFD for its existence?
