1. The cell body exclusive of the nucleus.

2. Any of the osmiophilic bodies that have concentric lamellae and occur in cells of the lung. Also called multilamellar body.

a multilayered, membrane-bound, lamellar body found in type II pneumocytes. It is a precursor of pulmonary surfactant.
