phosphorylation potential

(redirected from cytoplasmic energy state)

phosphorylation potential

the concentration ratio [ATP] / [ADP] [Pi] in the cytosol of a cell (where Pi is the total of inorganic phosphate ions, HPO42- and H2PO4-), proposed as an index of its energy status; this ratio is directly related to the free energy available from ATP. Also known as cytoplasmic energy state. See also adenosine mono-, di- and triphosphates (AMP, ADP, ATP), energy charge.
