cutting, n the process of weakening or diluting a substance; in aromatherapy, organic solvents or carrier oils are added to essential oils to increase the volume. Dipropyl glycol (DPG), diethyl phthalate (DEP), and phenylethyl alcohol are common cutting agents. cutting 1. a gait defect in horses. See brushing. 2. severing tissue, as with a blade, knife or scissors. press cutting a technique for making an incision with a scalpel blade in which there is increasing pressure in the same direction the blade is being moved. slide cutting pressure is applied at right angles to the movement of the blade. Safer and better controlled than press cutting when dissecting. |
