| The primary somatosensory cortex (S1) receives cutaneous stimulation information about touch, pain, temperature and limb position (Gazzaniga, Ivry, & Mangun, 2002). The investigators demonstrated that cutaneous stimulation of the ipsilateral or contralateral lower extremity increased the quadriceps femoris muscle excitability and the reflex response. Cutaneous stimulation from patella tape causes a differential increase in vasti muscle activity in people with patellofemoral pain. |
