Culex /Cu·lex/ (ku´leks) a genus of mosquitoes found throughout the world, many species of which are vectors of disease-producing organisms.

A genus of mosquitoes that act as vectors for many diseases of humans and domestic and wild animals.
Culex

a genus of humpbacked mosquitoes (Culicidae). It includes species that transmit viral encephalitis and filariasis. Culex pipiens is the most widely distributed mosquito globally.
