cuboid

One of the bones of the foot. It lies on the outer side immediately in front of the large heel bone, the CALCANEUS, and behind the fourth and fifth metatarsal bones.

tarsal bone, approximately cubic in shape, located at lateral aspect of midfoot; its distal facet articulates proximally with anterior facet of calcaneum (i.e. calcaneocuboid joint - part of midtarsal joint), its medial aspect with posterior two-thirds of lateral aspect of lateral cuneiform (i.e. cuneocuboid joint) and its anterior (distal) aspect with fourth and fifth metatarsal bases (i.e. cuboidometatarsal joint); its lateral inferior border is grooved to accommodate peroneus longus tendon (see Table 1)
