a decapod crustacean (suborder Macrura) that possesses an elongate body of the CARIDOID FACIES type.

Includes many genera and species, many of them farmed, e.g. Procambarus, Oronectes, Astacus, Pastifastacus spp. Called also freshwater crayfish.
