rale (rahl) crackle; a discontinuous sound consisting of a series of short sounds, heard during inhalation. amphoric rale a coarse musical rale due to splashing of fluid in a cavity connected with a bronchus. clicking rale a small sound heard when inhaled air passes through secretions in smaller bronchi. crackling rale subcrepitant r. crepitant rale a sound like that made by rubbing hairs between the fingers, heard at the end of inhalation. dry rale a fine sound heard in interstitial lung diseases such as idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis. moist rale a sound heard over fluid in the bronchial tubes. subcrepitant rale a fine moist rale heard over liquid in the smaller tubes. crackling rale.
