A term of art for a small cell with a dark (India ink-like) nucleus, a very high N:C ratio, coarse chromatin and irregular nuclear membranes found in a urine cytology specimens, which has traditionally been regarded as an indicator for high-grade urothelial carcinoma. This has been contested by Brimo, et al, who concluded that their association is not statistically significant.
