It has been postulated that stronger hip abductors help to stabilize the contralateral pelvis during walking and, by virtue of the effect on the body's center of mass, can reduce the adduction moment (or compressive force) at the knee.
One common source of error occurs when the audiometric stimulus is perceived in the contralateral (nontest) ear, and patient responses are unknowingly recorded as if they had resulted from stimulation of the test ear.
If possible, work should be performed with the contralateral (opposite) limb (Photo 4).
